Mae Wegner, age 96, formerly of rural Radcliffe, died on Friday, June 1, 2007 at her assisted living apartment in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hubbard, Iowa, with Rev. Matthew W. Rueger officiating. Burial was in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery rural Radcliffe.

The family received friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Boeke Funeral Home in Hubbard.
Mae Cornette (Sampson) Wegner was born on Jan. 27, 1911 on a farm in rural Radcliffe, Iowa. She was the twelfth child born to Chris and Martha (Osmundson) Sampson.

She was baptized and confirmed into Christian Faith at the Zion Lutheran Church in rural Radcliffe, Iowa.

Mae graduated in 1929 from Radcliffe High School with her Normal Training. She taught for two years in the "McCoy" schoolhouse.

On May 27, 1931, Mae was united in marriage to Ludwig Wegner at the Zion Lutheran Church. They lived in Chicago and Elmhurst, Illinois until moving back to Radcliffe in 1947. For a brief time, she again taught at McCoy School until it consolidated into Radcliffe Public School. Mae continued her education, receiving her Master's Degree from Drake University. She continued to teach at Radcliffe Public School.

Mae enjoyed working extensively compiling the Sampson family genealogy. Mae and Ludwig spent their winters in Florida and in 2003 she returned to Iowa to live with Bunny and Ted.

Death came to Mae on Friday. Those remaining to cherish her memory include two daughters, Barbara and her husband Larry Wilson of Rochester, New York and Brunhild "Bunny" and her husband Ted Ericksen of Hornick, Iowa; eight grandchildren Gary and Marguerite Wilson, Bill and Janet Wilson, Teresa and Gary Caldwell, Kevin Wilson, Tim and Divine Ericksen, Kristi and Richard Dennis, Angie Dennis, Steve and Kori Miller Ericksen; 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; along with other relatives and friends.

Mae was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four siblings in infancy, six brothers, Clarence, Silas, Cernel, Otis, Charles and Leroy and one sister Agnes Amundson.
