THE STORY CITY HERALD, Story City, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, January 23, 2008.

Funeral services for Kevin Rahfeldt, 51, of Norfolk, Nebraska, formerly of Radcliffe, Iowa, were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Norfolk. Visitation was from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15 at Home for Funerals in Norfolk. Burial was Friday, Jan. 18 in the Radcliffe cemetery in Radcliffe, Iowa.

Kevin Rahfeldt died at his home Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, surrounded by loved ones after a long battle with cancer.

Kevin was born on June 3, 1956, in Nevada, Iowa, to William and Inez (Lepper) Rahfeldt. He was raised on the family farm near Radcliffe, Iowa and graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1975. He continued his education at the Brown Institute of Broadcasting in Minneapolis, Minnesota, graduating in 1976.

On April 27, 1979 Kevin married Juli Wicks at the Salem Lutheran Church in Radcliffe.

Kevin's first broadcasting position was at KOLT in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. A year later he moved to KWBG in Boone, Iowa. After broadcasting for five years in Boone, he took a position with KDAO in Marshalltown, Iowa. In 1983, he was transferred to KGCI in Grundy Center, Iowa. He returned to Scottsbluff, Nebraska in 1984, with a position at KMOR. In 1990, he began his career as Program Director and host of the Mid-Day Mix on KNEN.

Kevin was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church where he was in the Stephen ministries and also served as the lead audio technician. He especially enjoyed his involvement with the youth of the church – teaching
Sunday school, confirmation classes and going on mission trips. For many years he participated in the Living Last Supper.

Kevin actively promoted Norfolk through his many remote broadcasts and personal appearances. He participated in Relay for Life in many different capacities, served on the Big Bang Boom committee and was on the sponsorship committee for the Norfolk Air Park Soccer Complex. These are just a few of the many organizations that Kevin contributed to. He cared a great deal about the City of Norfolk and once said, "I was fortunate to be able to come to Norfolk. My family has loved it here...the people here are great, they have always been kind to my family and I love the school system here. I hope I have given back to Norfolk what Norfolk has given me."

Family was always very important to Kevin. He truly appreciated all the loving support and care that Juli gave him over the past five and a half years during his battle with cancer. He took a special delight in the accomplishments of his children and never was hesitant to let his children know when he was in the audience. He enjoyed getting together with his siblings at the annual Rahfeldt Christmas and summer reunions. One of the highlights of this past year was the highly-anticipated birth of his first grandchild, Tava Marie Bergman.

He was an avid football fan of the Norfolk Panthers, Chicago Bears and Nebraska Cornhuskers. This past year when he was unable to work he enjoyed reading Stephen King books and organizing his home office. One of the things he most enjoyed was meeting and visiting with people.

Kevin is survived by his wife, Juli, of 28 years and their children, Maria (Troy) Becker of Pierce, Nebraska, Amy (Derek) Bergman of Omaha, Nebraska and Paul Rahfeldt of Lincoln, Nebraska; one grand daughter, Tava Marie Bergman; his siblings, Lynette Rahfeldt of Story City, Lynn (Jean) Rahfeldt of Ames, Rebecca (Lowell) Lande of Story City, Ronald (Glenda) Rahfeldt of Hubbard, Roger Rahfeldt of Story City, and Colleen (John) Johnson of Story City, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A scholarship in memory of Kevin will be established at Northeast Community College in Norfolk for future broadcasting students.
