Marian was born on November 29, 1917 to Byron and Maude (Hilton) Hubbell in Menahga, Minnesota. The family moved to Plover, Iowa when she was six. She attended school there and graduated from Plover High School in 1935. On April 8, 1936 she was united in marriage with Hal Hefley McKim at Plover. They soon moved to Nevada, where they farmed northeast of Nevada. It was here they raised their four children, Janis, Lois, Larry, and Marjorie.
Marian worked as a farm wife gardening, canning, and sewing in addition to helping raise her family. In 1953, she began working as a telephone operator for General Telephone. She and Hal moved to town in 1979. She retired in 1982 after 29 years of service. Following her retirement and the death of her husband the following year, she took up quilting, and then sewing teddy bears. Each family member has received at least one bear, with many more given to others. The number of bears reached 260. She named many of them, recording the names in a notebook. Marian conquered the computer, surfing the internet and keeping touch with family members via e-mail. Each Christmas, family members looked forward to her delicious gifts of fudge and coconut cream candy. Her grandchildren also fondly remember many visits to the farm.
Marian was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Nevada. In recent years, she especially enjoyed her Bible study group. Though struggling with macular degeneration during her final years, she was able to remain in her home and care for herself until her hospitalization.
Those left to honor her memory are her four children, Janis (Doug) Diehl and Larry (Claudia) McKim, all of Nevada, Lois (Bob) Allen of Pella, and Marge (Don) Morphet of Groveland, Florida; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; bother, Don Hubbell of Rockwell City; 4 sisters-in-law Edra, May, Tillie, and Carmen Hubbell as well as many nieces and nephews.
