Robert Joseph (Bob) Gorman, 71, of Ames, died Sunday, Jan. 20, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Stevens Memorial Chapel.
Robert Joseph (Bob) Gorman was born Jan. 13, 1937, in Fort Dodge, to Emerson and Ann (Sharp) Gorman. He moved to Ames as a small child and graduated from Ames High School in 1955. He was a member of the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962.
He married Phyllis Ranger Oct 4, 1972, in Ames.
He worked in the United States Postal Service for 37 years and retired in 1999 as supervisor in charge. He enjoyed fast pitch softball and bowling.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; one sister in-law, Marla Gorman Tice; two nephews, Gary (Tina) Gorman and their children, Josh, Hannah and Jacob, all of Ames, and Randy (Joni) Gorman and their children, Dustin, Brandin, Gretjin and Randi Jo, of Pilot Mound.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Tom and Jim Gorman.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Israel Family Hospice or memorial of your choice.
