Helen Rose (Cooper) Uthe, 89, of rural Boone, died Saturday, Jan. 12, at Abington on Grand Care Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ames.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.
Helen Rose (Cooper) Uthe was born April 3, 1918, in Ames, to William and Anna (Pantenburg) Cooper.
She graduated from Napier School, attended cosmetology school and worked in Ames until she married Raymond H. Uthe Jan. 2, 1940. They farmed in Williams, Ellsworth and finally in Boone since 1956. She enjoyed reading and gardening.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond; two daughters, Colleen (Bernard) Anderson, of Kankakee, Ill., and Janet (Rex) Ramsay, of Des Moines; one son, Donald (Janice) Uthe, of Ames; six grandchildren, Lisa Ramsay, Katie Ramsay, Scott Uthe, Stacy Uthe, Stephanie Uthe and Kevin Uthe; and one great-grandson, Ryan Uthe.
three sisters, Marcella, Wilma and Darlene; and one brother, Robert.
