Kimberly Marie Engstrom, 51, of Duluth, Minn., passed on to a better place Saturday, Jan. 12, surrounded by her loving family after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Private services were held. Burial was in Sunrise Memorial Park in Hermantown, Minn.

Kimberly Marie Engstrom was born Aug. 17, 1956, in Ames, to Lowell and Betty (Powell) Dahlgren. She was a 1974 graduate of Ames High School and a 1984 graduate of the University of Nebraska-Omaha in computer science and mathematics. She married John Engstrom in 1980 in Omaha.

She touched many people's lives with her straightforward yet caring and loving approach to life. She will sorely be missed by family and friends. There was no better place to be than summertime at her home on Island Lake, where she loved to cook for family and friends. She always hoped to be a chef in her own restaurant.

She had great fun playing keyboards and singing in the band, Trifecta. Making music was always a part of her life.

She is survived by her husband, John, of Duluth; three sons, Brad (Courtney) Engstrom, of Duluth, Gus (Liz) Engstrom, of Silver Bay, Minn., and Jackson, of Duluth; two brothers, Robert (Sandy) Dahlgren, of Ames, and Rick (Laurie) Dahlgren, of San Jose, Calif.; two sisters, Kathleen (Craig) Rahm, of Des Moines, and Carol (Randy) Sharp, of Shell Knob, Mo.; and three grandchildren, Kailey, Vada and Addision, all of Duluth.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Sunrise Funeral Home of Hermantown, Minn., was in charge of arrangements.
