THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, January 8, 2008.
Karen Wall Nielsen lost her courageous battle with cancer Saturday, Jan. 5. A memorial service to celebrate Karen's life will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at Church of the Redeemer, 2944 Erie Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio.
She is survived by her loving husband, George; one son, David (Jean) Nielsen; two daughters, Kris (Brad) Morris and Melissa (Tim) Miller; and her beloved grandchildren, Marisa, Erika and Tommy Nielsen, Annika and Cierra Miller, and Sammy and Nate Morris. She also will be missed by her brothers and sisters, David (Ceci) Wall, of Ames, Dallas Wall Rust, of Ames, John (Lois) Wall, of Greenville, N.C., and Mary Wall Harlan, of Panora; and four nieces and two nephews.
She was raised in Ames, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. David Wall. She attended Carleton College and graduated from Iowa State University. She received a master's degree from the University of Cincinnati in early childhood education. Her profession was centered around early childhood education and special education. She and George lived in Boston before settling in Cincinnati in 1970. She touched many lives with her teaching career, volunteer projects and church work. She taught kindergarten and preschool for many years at Redeemer Church and at Seven Hills Doherty School. She was a faithful PEO member of Chapter L and cherished the friendships she developed there. She volunteered for years (she loved arranging flowers!) at the Marjorie P. Lee Retirement Community and at her church, Church of the Redeemer, where she was a member of the Flower Guild and the Knitters Group.
She will be sorely missed, but remembered by all as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, mentor and teacher.
