THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, January 1, 2008.
(Mary) Lorena Brown, 87, of Nevada, died Saturday, Dec. 29, at Story County Medical Center of complications from a stroke suffered on Nov. 26. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames with Pastor David Lincoln and Elder Dick Judson officiating. Burial will be in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.
Lorena Brown was born Nov. 12, 1920, in Westfield, to Roy and Caroline Mary (Neville) Ramesbothom. She grew up in the Sioux City area. She graduated from Oak Park Academy in Nevada in 1939. She returned to Sioux City and married Floyd Brown on Feb. 21, 1942. They moved to Nevada in 1952.
She was employed as an LPN at Ames and Nevada nursing homes until her retirement in 1982. She loved gardening, feeding her birds, cooking, bread baking, reading, quilting and making crazy quilts for her entire family. She was an active, dedicated member of Nevada Seventh-Day Adventist Church working with the children's department and community service. She had a beautiful alto voice and sang duets with Marilyn Lounsberry at church for many years. She loved and spoiled her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always had a full cookie jar.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd Brown of Nevada; three daughters, Barbara Beam, of Lincoln, Neb., Bonnie (Ray) Peterson, of Gilbert, and Arlene (Mike) Fry, of Nevada; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lynn (Marilyn) Ramesbothom, of Clarence, Mo.; and two sisters, Ruby (Win) Parker, of Hood River, Ore., and Ruth Crews, of Bowdon, N.D.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Elwyn "Bud" Ramesbothom; and one great-granddaughter, Alissa Peterson.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, prior to the service at Stevens.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
