THE STORY CITY HERALD, Story City, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, March 1, 2006.

Roy Weddle, age 75, formerly of Garden City, Iowa, died on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006 at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in rural Radcliffe. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery, rural Ellsworth.

Roy Elvis Weddle was born on May 22, 1930 in Mt. Ayr, Iowa. He was one of two children born to Sam and Cora (Bolinger) Weddle.

Roy grew up on a farm in Ringgold County in Iowa. He received his education by attending country school for eight years. In 1949, he graduated from Mt. Ayr High School.

He enlisted into the U.S. Army and took his Basic Training in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, serving during the Korean Conflict.

After his discharge, he farmed with his father until his Dad became ill and he then took over the farm. Roy cared for his parents for a few years until his father's passing. He continued to care for his mother until she entered the nursing home. While his mother was at the nursing home, he visited her every day. This is where he met his wife to be.

Roy was united in marriage to Elene (Swenson) Sinn at Elene's parents' home in Story City. After their marriage, they moved onto the Swenson home place southwest of Radcliffe. They both had been employed at Bethany Manor in Story City. In 1991 Elene passed away and Roy moved to Garden City, Iowa where he resided until he moved to Story City.

Roy went home to be with they Lord after a two-year battle with cancer, on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006 at Bethany Manor in Story City.

Roy is survived by his mother-in-law, Arlie Swenson of Story City; brother-in-law, DeVon and wife Dianne Swenson of Radcliffe; sister-in-law, DeAnn Stephens of Nevada; along with cousins and many other relatives and friends.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Elene and one sister, Lavena Tintle.
