Helen Gene Skartvedt, 90, died Sunday, March 20, 2006. Services were held Thursday, March 23 at 10:30 a.m. at Stavanger Lutheran Church in Garden City. Burial was at Stavanger Lutheran Cemetery, also in Garden City.

Helen Gene Skartvedt was born Jan. 10, 1916, the eldest child of Harold and Gertie (Lunning) Lindebak in Ellsworth.

She attended school in Ellsworth and Radcliffe. She graduated valedictorian from Radcliffe High School in 1933. She then attended Waldorf College and sang in the Waldorf Choir. Helen taught school before she married.

Arnold and Helen were united in marriage May 27, 1944, and together they raised their family of five sons and one daughter. Helen was active in Stavanger Lutheran Church as a teacher and in the Dorcas Society. Helen's greatest wish was that everyone would know her Lord and Savior.

Helen is survived by her husband, Arnold; her children, David Skartvedt and wife Mary of Riverside, California; Wendell Frette and wife Lois of Jewell; Ivan Skartvedt and wife Barbara of Conrad; Lyle Skartvedt and wife Pam of Garden City; and Jean Engelson and husband Larry of Garden City; 24 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; sisters, Florence Topp of Radcliffe and Donna Liming and husband Lenard of Ames.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Charles and Glenn; brother, Edward Lindebak and sisters, Vivian and Ursula Maakestad.
