Marion P. Johnson, 86, of North Liberty, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007 at Lantern Park Nursing Home in Coralville, Iowa, following a short illness. Celebration of Life services were held Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland, Iowa. A visitation was held one hour prior to the service. Burial, with Military Honors, was at the
Roland Cemetery.

Marion was born July 1, 1921, in Roland, the son of Eli and Magdalena "Maggie" (Anoniasen) Johnson. Following graduation from Roland High School, he married Mardean Fry on Feb. 10, 1942. Marion enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942. Following his discharge, he served in the reserves and operated a grain and livestock farm in central Iowa. Marion worked for The American Legion in Iowa and Idaho. He was Assistant Adjutant in Iowa and Department Adjutant in Idaho. Marion was a columnist for The Roland Record, a weekly newspaper. His column was called "With Tongue In Cheek." He recently published a book with the same title.

Survivors include: his wife of 65 years; a son, David Johnson of Parrish, Florida; four grandchildren, Jill Johnson-West of North Liberty, Maria Ganesh of Castro Valley, California, Rich Johnson of Lake Zurich, Illinois, Chris Johnson of Fort Worth, Texas; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland.
