Irvin Charles Anderson, 79, of Boone, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Boone County Hospital in Boone. His body has been cremated and graveside services and burial of his cremains will be at a later date in Essex Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Irvin Charles Anderson was born April 4, 1928, in Page County, the son of Alvin and Lillie (Gustafson) Anderson. He graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1947 and from Iowa State University in 1951, and he earned a master's degree and a doctorate degree from North Carolina State University. He lived in Ames most of his life. He worked at the agronomy farm at Iowa State University and taught graduate courses in research and crop production from 1958 to 2002, when he retired. In earlier years, he served with the Iowa National Guard for six years. He loved being a professor and working in an advisory position at ISU. In earlier years, he enjoyed fishing, boating and camping with his son and daughter.
He is survived by one son, Michael and wife, Janet, of St. Louis Park, Minn.; one daughter, Kristina Kappes and husband, Richard, of Bowie, Md.; three brothers, Howard Anderson, of Choctaw, Okla., Clark Anderson, of Clarinda, and Richard Anderson, of Sibley; two sisters, Donna Rulon and Beth Anderson, both of Shenandoah; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Marvin.
Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall streets in Boone is in charge of the arrangements.
