June 25, 1957-Dec. 15, 2007
Paul N. Peiffer, 50, of Washington, D.C., and formerly of Delhi, Ames and Des Moines, was taken to his final reward Saturday, Dec. 15, after an amazingly courageous battle with cancer. The family will greet Paul's friends and relatives and share stories of Paul's life from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade. His cousin, The Rev. Peg Hoekstra, will conduct the memorial service at 3 p.m.
Paul N. Peiffer was born June 25, 1957, in Manchester, the third son of the late Robert Peiffer and Mary Ann (Meis) Peiffer. He graduated from Maquoketa Valley High School in 1975, earned a bachelor's degree from Iowa State University in 1980, and a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking in 1995.
He loved business and banking. In 1981, he began his professional career with Farm Credit, first as a loan officer, then as a work-out specialist, then as the branch manager of offices. In 1998, Farm Credit utilized his business savvy to restructure its operations at its Omaha headquarters. In 1999, he began working for John Deere Credit, helping establish its direct lending services to farmers. In 2005, he joined Farmer Mac where he worked until his death. He finished his Farmer Mac career serving as vice president of agricultural credit, responsible for Farmer Mac's nationwide underwriting and loan servicing. During his short tenure, he opened Farmer Mac's underwriting office in Iowa and developed key credit relationships nationwide.
He loved life and always lived it to the fullest. He is remembered as being a man of uncommon intellect, unparalleled competitiveness, uncompromising integrity and a man having an unquenchable, abiding love of family and friends. Upon his untimely departure from this life, he leaves his widow, Deborah Conti, of Washington, D.C., and her sons, Ian and Travis; daughters, Erin, of Des Moines, Jessica Serenity (Joe) Groenenboom, of Ames; son, Cole, of Ames; his mother, Mary Ann, of Cascade; and his siblings, Lawrence, of Hopkinton, Joseph (Becky), of Marion, Theresa, of Monticello, Leo (Shirley), of Langworthy, and Carl, of Dubuque.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital or a charity of their choice.
A memorial gathering may be in Des Moines in January. Details will follow when available.
