Norma Mildred (Springman) Randau, of Story City, died peacefully Sunday, Dec. 16, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with family present from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 21, and funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, both at Grace United Methodist Church in Story City.

Norma Mildred (Springman) Randau, of Story City, died peacefully Sunday, Dec. 16, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames following complications from congestive heart failure. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with family present from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 21, and funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, both at Grace United Methodist Church in Story City.

Norma Mildred (Springman) Randau was born March 19, 1921, on her grandfather's farm north of Jewell, to John and Millie (Baldus) Springman. Norma had two brothers, Owen (who died in infancy) and Lewis. In 1926, she moved with her family to the farm west of Story City. She attended Center School and graduated from Story City High School in 1939. She attended State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa) and AIB. During college, she played trumpet in the Junior Farm Bureau Instrumental Quartet.

She married Merrill H. Randau March 28, 1943, at Grace EUB Church in Story City. They resided south of Ames for one year, and then returned to her family farm to form a dairy partnership with her parents. They were blessed with five daughters. They enjoyed nearly 37 years of marriage before Merrill's death Feb. 9, 1980.

In addition to being a homemaker, she worked at a munitions plant during World War II, and also as an insurance sales representative for the past 35 years. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and held several offices throughout the years in Homebuilders, Afternoon Circle and Senior Choir. She also was a member of Owl Country Club, ICCI, Songbirds Choir, Roland-Story MAST and the Story City Historical Society. She served many years as an election official and was an avid campaigner for democratic candidates. She enjoyed gardening and yard work. She was an avid fan of any activity that her children and grandchildren were involved in, rarely missing a game or concert.

She is survived by five daughters, 13 grandchildren, one great-grandson, one sister-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. Her survivors include Sharon (Mike) Hilleman, of Sioux Center, and their children, Christie (Paul) Hocamp, of Atlantic, Heidi (John) Ernst, and their son, Joseph Michael, of Olathe, Kan., and Scott (Courtney) Hilleman, Del Ray Beach, Fla.; Patricia (Steve) Christensen and their sons, Lars and Jacob, all of Sycamore, Ill.; Cynthia (Gordon) Accola and their sons, Anthony (Amanda), Derek and Colton, all of Ames; Kathy (Bruce) Twedt, of Story City, and their daughters, Jennifer (Chris) Weis, of North Liberty, and Melissa Twedt, of Story City; Mary Lou Geneser, of Granger, and her children, Ashley, of Independence, Mo., Jerilyn and Lucas, of Granger; and Bethine Springman, of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two brothers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Grace Church, Center Cemetery, or the American Heart Association.
