Orva Shenkle, 95, 604 Ann Rutledge Rd, Died Tuesday (June 30 [1992]) at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Estel-Perin-Avey Chapel, witht he Rev. Larry French of St. Anthony Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Collins. Friends may call at the Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home after 10 a.m. Thursday. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home. A memorial fund is being established.
Born July 7, 1896 in Ira. Ia., she was the daughter of Richard and Clara Jeffers Beals. She received her education in Baxter. On Aug. 20, 1916 she married William Shenkle in Des Moines. They resided in the Collins, Colo, Rhodes area, moving to St. Anthony in 1937. They moved to Marshalltown in 1979. Her husband preceded her in death in 1959.
Mrs. Shenkle was engaged in farming with her husband. She was a member of Collins Methodist Church and C.W.F.
Surviving are: siven daughters, Frances (Mrs. George) Rowe, Marshalltown; Berneice (Mrs. Glenn) Brownfield, Colo; Hildred (Mrs. Lowell) Spence, Truro; Mrs. Jean Day, Mason City; Arlene (Mrs. Willard) Cripps, Marshalltown; Shirley (Mrs. Richard) Nicholson, Marshalltown; Mrs. Sherry Meier, Ames; three sons, John, Shenandoah; William Jr., St. Anthony; Franklin, Marshalltown; one brother, Donald Beals, Colfax; 34 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters, Wilma in infancy and Mrs. Jane Simons in 1990, eight sisters, three brothers and three grandchildren.
