Mary C. Evans, daughter of Madison and Rhoda Shenkle Evans, was born March 2, 1861, in Bureau county, Illinois, and died after an illness of several months at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Byrl Bell, February 2, 1934, at the age of 72 years 11 months.
At the age of five, she came with her parents to a farm southeast of Collins, Ia., where she grew to womanhood. When a young girl, she was converted and united with the United Brethren church, of which she was a member at the time of her death.
On December 5, 1886, she was united in marriage at the home of her mother, near Collins, to Robert B. Dawson. To this union three children were born.
She and her family moved to near Mingo, twenty-six years ago and remained there with the exception of four years, in which she lived in Newton, Ia. She was the last to survive of eighteen children.
Besides her husband, she leaves to mourn her passing one daughter, Mrs. Byrl Bell of near Colfax; two sons, Thomas L. of near Ira, Ia., and Robert M. of Newton, Ia.; nine grandchildren, Charles and Harvey Bell; Lee, Glenn, Opal and Marjorie Dawson; and one great grandchild, Robert Bell; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Collins United Brethren church, in charge of Rev. Tiffany, and interment was in Collins Evergreen cemetery.
