L.D. Shearer, 89, Dies in Hospital;
Services Thursday
COLLINS - L. D. Shearer, 89, life-time Collins resident, passed away at 10:30 Tuesday morning in the Deoconess hospital in Marshalltown, where he had been a patient the past six days. He had been in ill health for the past 15 years.
Funeral services will be held 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon from the Collins Methodist church with the Rev. Louis Joslin, pastor, in charge. Interment will be in the Collins Evergreen cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Clara Serbein of Collins and Mrs. Myrtle Beisnecker of Lakeworth, Fla.; one son, Paul of Kansas City, and six granddaughters and four grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1935 and a son, Oliver, in 1943.
The body will be taken from Brouhard's Funeral home in Zearing to the Serbein home in Collins about 9 o'clock Thursday morning.

NEVADA JOURNAL June 20, 1950COLLINS - Funeral services for the late L. D. Shearer were conducted from the Collins Methodist church last Thursday, June 15, at 2:00 p.m., by the Rev. Louis H. Joslin.
The vocal selection, "In the Garden", was rendered by Mrs. Kenneth Tomlinson and Mrs. Loyd Holland, with Mrs. C. R. Stone at the piano.
The flowers were cared for by Mrs. Ora Hanson, Mrs. J. R. Armstrong and Mrs. M. R. Rice
Pallbearers were Dewey Kern, Henry Dodd, C. B. Carr, C.E. Fish and Glen Mitchell. Interment was in Collins Evergreen cemetery.
OBITUARY
Lewis Denver Shearer, the oldest child of Silas I. and Jane Shenkle Shearer, was born in Collins township, Story county, Iowa, October 17, 1860 and departed this life at the Deaconess hospital, Marshalltown, Iowa, on June 13, 1950, at the age of 89 years, 7 months and 26 days.
On December 25, 1884, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Lillian Ozmun. To this union were born four children, three of whom survive him. They are Mrs. Oscan N. Serbein of Collins; Mrs. Myrtle Biesnecker of Lake Worth, Fla., and Paul L. Shearer of Kansas City, Kans. One son James Oliver Shearer, died in 1943. Mrs. Shearer passed away on December 5, 1935.
After Mrs. Shearer's death Mr. Shearer made his home with his daughter, Clara Serbein; this covered a period of about 15 years. About 10 years ago he suffered a broken _____ from which he never fully covered. Since 1949 there was a more serious lapse in health, resulting in his death on June 13, 1950.
Besides the children mentioned above, there remain to mourn his passing three sisters and one brother. They are Mrs. Orrie Heintz of Collins; Mrs. Catherine Diggins of Colo, Iowa, Mrs. Hattie Frazier of Hot Springs, S. D., and Walter Shearer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren; also a number of nephews and nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.
