(This following is from the Armour, S.D., Chronicle of June 19):

James Garfield Shearer, son of Silas and Elizabeth Shearer, was born at Collins, Iowa, on October 14, 1881, and passed away very suddenly as a result of a heart attack on Wednesday, June 10, 1942. He was the youngest of a family of eleven children, three of whom, as well as the parents, preceded him in death.

On February 10, 1903, he was united in marriage to Olive M. Robinson at St. Anthony, Ia. To this union were born ten children; one, Cecil E. Shearer, died July 28, 1926, at the age of five and one-half years. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Shearer made their home in Kirksville, Mo., and in 1904 they moved to Armour, S. D., where they have since made their home, except for three years, when they lived in Lyman county, S.D.

He was a devoted husband, a kind father, and helpful friend and neighbor, and will be missed much by his family and host of relatives and friends.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife; two sons Reo J. Shearer of Armour, S.D.; Staff Sergeant, Vearl Shearer of San Bruno, Calif. and seven daughters, Leota Underwood of Huron, S.D., Arietta G. Hawley, of Armour, S.D.; Irma M. Swenson of Minneapolis, Minn.; Iola J. Kornder of Armour, S.D., Mardel M. Polt of Plankinton, S.D.; LaDonna L. Shearer of Norfolk, Neb., and Odetta M. Shearer of Armour, S.D., and 10 grandchildren. Also three brothers, L.D. Shearer of Collins, Ia.; S.A. Shearer of Los Angeles, Calif., and E.V. Shearer of Marion, Ia.; four sisters, Mrs. Ora B. Heintz of Collins, Ia.; Mrs. Minnie Kinberley (sic Kimberley) and Mrs. Katherine Diggins of Colo, Ia., and Mrs. Hariett S. Frazier of Hot Spring, S.D.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the high school auditorium with Rev. E. C. Salter conducting the services. Interment was in Pleasant Ridge cemetery.

Rader and family, Mitchell, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Marlin Robinson and daughters, Mitchell, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Robinson and sons, Ethan, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Thyron Dunn and family, Irene, S.D.; Mrs. Annie Caray, Corsica; Mr. and Mrs. L.J. Blair, Mitchell, S.D., Mrs. V. Vanderhiele and son, W.M. Erickson, all of Yankton, S.D.; Mrs. Lanctot, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Polt, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Soppe, Mr. and Mrs. B. Carrol, all of Plankinton, S.D., and Miss Olivia Jerke, Tripp, S.D.
