Esther Shearer, 81, of Madrid, died Thursday, March 6, of a respiratory ailment at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 10, in the Sanborn Chapel at Madrid Home. Burial will be in Hillsdale Cemetery near Madrid.

Esther Shearer was born in Carney. She worked as a cook for Luther School, and resided in Luther for 38 years. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She enjoyed Iowa State Cyclone sports, embroidery and cooking.

She is survived by one son, Bob Shearer and wife Marilyn of Ames; seven brothers, Joe Magnani Jr. of Madrid, Armond Magnani of Madrid, William Magnani of Ankeny, Kenny Magnani of Polk City, Marvin Magnani of Las Vegas, Nev., Terry Magnani of Pleasant Hill and Raymond Magnani of Johnston; seven sisters, Charlotte Magnani of Des Moines; Dorothy Gordon of Polk City, Judy McClain of Madrid, Frances Frey of Madrid, Norma Wallace of Dubuque, Joann Eppert of Luther and Phyllis Galetich of Madrid; three grandchildren, Curt Shearer and wife Donelle of Rhodes, Cindy Shearer of Ames and Luann Jensen and husband Dickson of Ames; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William; two sisters, and one great-grandson.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Madrid.

Memorials may be directed to Madrid Home.

Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Madrid is in charge of arrangements.
