Grandma Shearer died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Julia A. Williams, in this city last Friday after a lingering illness. She was a woman well known to everybody hereabout, having been one of the oldest settlers. She has been a patient sufferer during the whole time that age was undermining her constitution and her closing days were marked with resignation.

Magdalena Shearer was born in Ohio, Dec. 11, 1809, and died March 31, 1899. When eighteen years of age she moved to Indiana with her parents. In 1833 she was married to Valentine Shearer, and to them were born nine children, five of whom are now living - Mrs. Julia A. Williams, Mrs. Wm. McClees, Mrs. John Belcher, Robert Shearer and Mrs. Lydia Womack - and four with their father have crossed over to the other shore to meet her coming. She united with the M.E. church when she was 23 years of age and has lived a good Christian life ever since. Her husband, who died July 9, 1882, had been a minister of the gospel for thirty years. The funeral services were held at the M.E. church Saturday at 11 o'clock and were conducted by the pastor, Rev. Howe. She was laid to rest beside her husband in the Day Cemetery.
