Ladine Elva Petefish, of Ames, entered the house of the Lord Friday, Nov. 2, after a short illness with heart disease. She passed away at Israel Family Hospice in Ames after becoming a patient there Oct. 3. Ladine was very proud of reaching her 90th birthday and was able to come home from the hospital on that day.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Adams Funeral Home in Ames, with Deanna Pullen, Minister of Congregational Care at First United Methodist Church of Ames, officiating. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, southwest of Alleman.
Ladine Elva Petefish was born Oct. 2, 1917, on a farm near Farrar, to Edward B. Battles and Minnie Mickle Battles. Ladine married Robert H. Petefish Feb. 6, 1943, in St. Louis, Mo. To this union three daughters were born. In 1950, they moved to Ames, and had been there ever since. Bob and Ladine celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this year.
Ladine taught for 26 years as an elementary teacher in Elkhart, North Grant and Ames Community Schools. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in education from Drake University in Des Moines.
Ladine is survived by her husband, Bob, of Ames; three daughters, Ann (Don) Petefish Sielert, of McKinney, Texas, Linda (Raymond) Petefish Rexroat, of Des Moines, and Roberta (Daniel) Petefish Gilmore, of Woods Cross, Utah; four grandchildren, Kimberly (Ron) Sielert Berdinsky, of Frisco, Texas, Robert Sielert, of Allen, Texas, and Anthony Gilmore and Robert (Breck) Gilmore, both of Farmington, Utah; seven great-grandchildren, Brett and Kendall Berdinsky, Jason Sielert, Sadie Mae Gilmore, and Savannah, Luke and Libby Gilmore. She also leaves many other family members and friends to mourn her passing.Ladine was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Thelma McClannahan, Bernice Miller and Wanda Alleman; one brother, Leland Battles; and one grandson, Dirk Gilmore.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at Adams Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Ames.
