THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, October 30, 2007.

Dr. Miles H. Bairey, 73, of Nevada, died Sunday, Oct. 28, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. Burial with military honors will be in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Miles H. Bairey was born April 30, 1934, in Sioux Falls, S.D., the son of Guy Henry and Mary (Huxtable) Bairey. He married Janice Smith Jan. 8, 1956, in Chamberlain, S.D. Miles served in the Army and earned his DVM from the University of Minnesota. He later earned a master's degree in microbiology from Montana State University. He practiced in Highmore, S.D., for five years. He was head of the aerobics products section of V.B.C. at the National Animal Disease Laboratory in Ames until 1990, when he transferred to International Services and worked two years in Haiti. He retired in 1992.

He was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, where he served on the church council. He also had served on the Story County Youth and Shelter Services Board, served two terms on the Nevada School Board and had a strong interest in and for education. He loved to travel and was deeply devoted to his family.

He is survived by his wife, Jan, of Nevada; three sons, Dr. Michael G. Bairey, of West Palm Beach, Fla., Mark G. Bairey, of Nevada, and Boone (Brenda) Boten, of Des Moines; two daughters, Melody (Lynn) Oswald, of Bettendorf, and Monica (Mikhail) Bairey-Mon'ey, of Rosemount, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; and one sister, Fern (Donald) Swearingen, of Sioux Falls, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Jason Bairey in 1989.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.

Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
