NEVADA JOURNAL, Nevada, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, October 18, 2007.

Ruth Marie Coughenour, 83, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

She was born March 11, 1924 in Lincoln, Nebraska to John Archie (J.A.) Lund and Hazel Adams Lund. She was raised in rural Nebraska and moved with her parents to central Iowa during her high school years.

She graduated from Collins High School in 1941 and was married to Harold M. Britten in 1943. She was a farm wife, homemaker, and full time mother for many years and was later employed at Graphic Forms, Donnelly Corporation, and Harrison's Haven in Nevada. She moved to Ames in 1974 and worked 10 years as a home health care provider.

On June 4, 1982 she was united in marriage with Gerald D. Coughenour and they made their home in Ames. She was an active member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church and devoted many hours to her children and grandchildren. She and Gerald were active members of the Ames Moose Club for many years and were avid dancers.

She is survived by her husband Gerald of Ames, two sons and two daughters-in-law Jerry and Leola Britten of Zearing and Alan Britten and Karen Combs of McCallsburg, one daughter Sharon Britten, of Fulton, Missouri, one daughter-in-law Bonnie Britten of Seattle, Washington, one stepson and daughter-in-law Brad and Karen Coughenour of Athol, Idaho, fourteen grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother John Lund, her first husband Harold Britten, and a son Kent Britten.

Visitation was Sunday, October 14 at Adams Funeral Home. 502 Douglas Avenue, Ames. Funeral services were held Monday, October at Grand Avenue Baptist Church, 612 24th Street in Ames. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
