Annette Kathryn Dingman Homer, 83, of Ames, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, peacefully at home. A Mass of celebration of her life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ames. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Annette Homer was born Oct. 4, 1924, in Fort Madison, to Henry and Ellen (Hellman) Dingman. She graduated from Catholic Central High School in Fort Madison in 1942. She received her RN diploma from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Quincy, Ill., in 1946. She completed her BSN in public health nursing from St. Louis University. She served as a U.S. Navy nurse from 1951 to 1952.
She married Roger Homer Aug. 2, 1952, and to this union were born five children. Along with raising her family, she was actively involved in many community activities, including serving on the first parish council at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, SCARC, Ames Public Library Board of Trustees and ISU Women's Club.
She is survived by her husband, Roger Homer, of Ames; one son, Mark Homer, of Napa, Calif.; four daughters, Margaret Hathaway, of Cedar Rapids, Melinda Widen, of Miami, Fla., Mary Hathaway, of Iowa City, and Molly Homer, of Macomb, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and one brother.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., with sharing of memories at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.
