Bette L. Stevenson, 82, of Des Moines, died Saturday, Oct. 13, at Bickford Cottage in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at First United Methodist Church in Des Moines. She will be laid to rest in Monroe Cemetery.

Bette L. Stevenson was born Jan. 24, 1925, in Oxford, Neb., to Russell and Pearl Roush Veon, and raised in Monroe along with her brother, Harold. She married Robert M. Stevenson, of Newton, July 29, 1945, and they raised their three children in Des Moines: Gene (Lyn) Stevenson, of Aurora, Colo., Larry (Sandy) Stevenson, of Ankeny, and Terri (Bill) Dunshee, of Ames. She was very proud of her grandchildren, Jim (Liz), John, Jenni, Jessi, Jake, Kelsey and Kate, and new great-granddaughter, Josie.

She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Des Moines. She enjoyed traveling the world and was an avid volunteer for the Veteran's Hospital and Lutheran Hospitals after her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; her husband; and her friend, Bud North.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home in Des Moines.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League or First United Methodist Church of downtown Des Moines.
