Orine "Duke" Sevde, 85, of Ames, died Sunday, Oct. 14, at The Village in Indianola. A gathering of friends will be from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at Adams Funeral Home. A private family burial will follow.
Orine "Duke" Sevde was born Feb. 13, 1922, in Story County, to Henry and Helen (Holland) Sevde. He served in the Coast Guard as a Boatswains Mate 2/C during World War II. He married Lillie Rowe Nov. 17, 1942, in Des Moines.
He was a principal research technician at Iowa State University, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Ames American Legion Post No. 37, Ames Elks Lodge, Cyclone Club, and enjoyed fishing, dancing and visiting with good friends.
He is survived by one son, Clem (Mickie) Sevde, of Norwalk; two grandchildren, Andrea (John) Bartman, of Gretna, Neb., and Emily (Patrick) Horrell, of Norwalk; and two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Marin Bartman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lillie; one son, Michael; two sisters, Alta Brown and Eileen Rench; and one brother, Richard Sevde.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at Adams Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Johnny Orr Memory Center or Healthy Aging Institute.
