Helen Marie Ryan, of Des Moines, died Friday, Oct. 12. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Augustin Catholic Church in Des Moines, with burial in Glendale Cemetery.

Helen Marie Ryan was born April 8, 1917, in Ontario, Iowa, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Krajicek. She moved to Des Moines in 1935.

She was in the National Honor Society, graduated from Mercy School of Nursing and became a registered nurse. She worked for Ryan Realty with her husband, Edward Ryan. She was a member of St. Augustin Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and neighbor. Those who knew her will remember her for her wit, generosity, kindness, gentle nature and humor.

She is survived by three sons, Dennis Ryan, of Iowa City, Dick (Linda) Ryan, of Durham, N.C., and Kevin (Rebecca) Ryan, of West Des Moines; three daughters, Marilyn (Dave) Keller, of Omaha, Neb., Patty Ryan, of Des Moines, and Sheila Ryan Mackel, of Des Moines; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; one brother, John Krajicek; and two sisters, Ella Wagaman and Phyllis Page.

The family wishes to thank all of her loving caretakers.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Juvenile Diabetes Association, St. Augustin Catholic Church Bishop Drumm Care Center or Cure Autism Now.

Dunn's Funeral Home in Des Moines is in charge of arrangements.
