THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, October 13, 2007.

Marcella R. Stritzel, 89, of Ames, passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 11, at home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ames. Cremation will follow the service.

Marcella Stritzel was born Nov. 24, 1917, in Waterloo, to Joseph and Anna (Gindt) Hill. She completed her degree in home economics from Iowa State University in 1950. She married Joseph Stritzel July 1, 1950.

She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, a Bible study group, and Christian Family Movement. After raising her nine children, she obtained her real estate license and sold property for 10 years.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Joseph Stritzel, of Ames; five daughters, Mary Anne (Steven) Holland, of Ames, Denise (Matthew) Baretich, of Ft. Collins, Colo., Marla (Gordon) Sloan, of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, Clare (James) Sprowell, of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Cheryl (Robert) McCarthy, of Naperville, Ill.; four sons, Greg (Laura) Stritzel, of Oakland, Calif., Paul Stritzel, of Ames, Stephen (Mary) Stritzel, of Ames, and Mark (Linda) Stritzel, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 23 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Isabelle Barry; and a brother, Andrew Hill.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.

Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Thomas Aquinas/ISU scholarship fund.

Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames is assisting her family.
