Iola J. Gaunt, 80, of Nevada and formerly of Ames, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, in Ames, with the Rev. A. David Digby officiating. Private family burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Iola J. Gaunt was born Feb. 23, 1927, in Waterbury, Conn., to Arthur and Natalie (Smith) James. She married John Philbrook Gaunt in August 1947. She was a secretary at First Christian Church in Ames, retiring in 1992.

She was a member of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. She liked people and enjoyed her friends.

She is survived by one son, James A. (Cynthia) Gaunt, of Ames; one sister, Natalie Payne, of Waterbury, Conn.; and two grandchildren, Sarah J. Gaunt and Richard C. Gaunt, both of Ames.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1959.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at Adams Funeral Home.
