Carolyn Grace Marrujo de O'Hara, 48, of Ames, died Saturday, Sept. 29, at Israel Family Hospice House. A memorial service of Catholic mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 2900 Hoover Ave., in Ames. Services also will be held in California for friends and relatives unable to attend Thursday's mass.
Carolyn Grace Marrujo de O'Hara was born Oct. 18, 1959, in Norwalk, Calif., to Felipe and Christina Marrujo. She graduated from Van Nuys High School, located in the San Fernando Valley in southern California, in 1977.
She was on the staff at Iowa State University, where she had many friends and co-workers who had special bonds with her. The family would like to express all their thanks to everyone who helped with Carolyn and her children, Alanna and Dex. She was a wonderful mother and she managed to touch the life of anyone who knew her.
She is survived by one daughter, Alanna O'Hara, and one son, Dex O'Hara, both of Ames; two sisters, Helen I. McGlothlin, of Reno, Nev., and Lorraine A. Marrujo de Yorgensen, of Ames; and her father, Felipe A. Marrujo, of Diamond Bar, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Christina Sierra; one sister, Corina Allen; and three brothers, Edmund, Joseph and Robert Marrujo.
The family suggests donations be made to the Gilda Radner Ovarian Cancer Foundation in her name in lieu of flowers.
Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames is assisting the family.
