Josephine B. Clymer, 93, of Ames and formerly of Boone, died Thursday, Sept.13, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services are pending at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.

Josephine Beatrice Clymer, 93, formerly of Boone and Scottsdale, Ariz., died Thursday, Sept. 13, of complications from cancer at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at Bethany Manor Chapel in Story City.

Josephine Growing was born in Toledo, Ohio, the third daughter of Elmer and Josephine (Mungwiller) Growing. She later moved to Marion, Ind., where she grew up and had a wonderful childhood. She was close to her sisters, Melva and Luellen, and enjoyed school and craft activities, even though she was shy at times. She worked in retail and at the Marion phone company until her marriage. In 1939, she met a handsome football player from Purdue, Roger Clymer. After his degree in dairy agriculture was finished, they were married March 15, 1941. They started a family and later moved to Boone, and together started their own business, the Boone All-Star Dairy. Josephine raised her three children and enjoyed attending their concerts and events, sewing costumes for recitals, and being active in their lives. With her husband, she worked at the family dairy business as bookkeeper. Later, they retired to Arizona and enjoyed visiting family and friends on their travels. For the last few years, they moved back to Iowa and most recently lived at Bethany Manor in Story City.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Roger; two sons, John (Dea) Clymer and Bob (Betty) Clymer; and one daughter, Jo Myers-Walker. She also is survived by nine granddaughters and one grandson, as well as 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends who appreciated her quick wit and sharp instincts. She had the ability to offer advice that usually ended up being the best advice, even if it wasn't always apparent at first. She was welcoming to strangers and was always very social, and she carried herself with a grace that was to be admired.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight at Bethany Manor Chapel. A time for sharing will be at 6:30 p.m.
