JONAS CHRISTIAN DIED THIS MORNING

PRESIDENT OF LOCAL BANK IS VICTIM OF LOCKJAW FOLLOWING ACCIDENT

Jonas Christian, farmer and president of the First National bank here, died at his home at 7:40 this morning, after several days illness with lockjaw which set in after an accident in a corn picking machine. He was afflicted with the disease Saturday and gradually became worse so that no hope was held out for his recovery the last couple days.

Mr. Christian was injured two weeks ago last Saturday in a corn picking machine. Three fingers were taken off and an effort was made to save the fourth, but it was mashed so badly that it had to be removed the following Wednesday. After that he seemed to be recovering and was able to be around, coming to town several times, until Saturday evening when lockjaw set in, and since then he was in critical condition and suffered great pains until death relieved him this morning.

Besides managing his large farm southwest of town, he was connected with the First National Bank, serving on the board of directors and as vice president since its organization over 21 years ago, and the first of this year was elected president to succeed T. T. Henryson of Story City, who resigned from the board.

The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon, at 1 o'clock at the residence and at 2 o'clock in Salem church.

He was born January 20, 1868, and lacked two months of being 62 years of age at the time of his death.

In March 1892 he was married to Betsy Johnson of this place and three children were born to this union, Mrs. Cyrus Thompson of Roland, Mrs. Clarence Baldus of Kenyon, Minn., and Mrs. John T. Johnson of Roland. He first wife died January 9, 1904.
