NONAGENARIAN DIED SUNDAY
----
MRS. MARKHUS REACHED ADVANCED AGE OF OVER NINETY YEARS
----Mrs. Ingrid Markhus, one of Roland's two nonagenarian residents, died early Sunday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Marshall Hanson, her exact age being 90 years, 8 months and 4 days. The only other person in Roland at the present time who has reached the age of ninety years, is Betsy Sheldahl, who will be 93 years of age next January 24th.
Mrs. Ingrid Marhus was born at Skaanevig, Norway, March 19, 1839, and died at Roland November 24, 1929.
She was married in 1861 to Gottschall Markhus, and to this union eight children were born, all of whom survive.
There are a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren surviving, and also one great great grandchil, Earl Sorgatz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Sorgatz of Amboy, Minn. Mrs. Sorgatz was formerly Miss Rose Nokes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nokes of Lake Crystal, Minn., Mrs. Nokes being a daughter of Mrs. Marshall Hanson of this place.
The children are Mrs. Marshall Hanson, Roland; Gust Markhus and Mrs. John Gronas of Wolford, N. D.; Mrs. Hans Sathre and Hans Markhus of Eagle Grove; Mrs. Ole Markhus and Mrs. Ingebrit Markhus of Markhus, Norway, and Tollif Markhus of Ode, Hardanger, Norway.
She came to America 29 years ago and since that time has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Marshall Hanson, in this community. Nine years ago she fell and injured herself and since then has been an invalid, but was able to move about with the aid of a crutch. Old age gradually took her strength and last February she suffered a slight stroke. About six weeks ago she took seriously ill and was confined to her bed until she died at an early hour Sunday morning.
Arrangements have been made for the funeral Wednesday at the Hanson home and in Salem church, with interment in the Roland cemetery, Rev. Olaf Holen in charge.
