Obert J. Hia, son of Iver and Olava (Bergeland)Hia was born July 31, 1896, in Hamilton County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Elim Lutheran Church, Randall, Iowa.
He spent the former years of his life in the Story City and Ellsworth communities, and later moved to Des Moines where he was a salesman for the American Republic Insurance Co., of Des Moines.
On December 4, 1957 he was united in marriage to Veva Ball of Des Moines.
He passed away at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa on Judy 23, 1968, at the age of 71 years, 11 months and 22 days following a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife, Veva, a stepson, Robert Hall, Calif., four sisters, Mrs. R.J. (Anna) Anderson of Ames, Mrs. Ben (Alice) Mortvedt of Story City, Mrs. Lulu Wierson of Roland and Mrs. Lloyd (Olava) Buckels of Jewell and two brothers, Selmer of Mission, Kansas and Arnold of Webster City besides many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Funeral services were held on Friday, July 26, at 12:00 noon at Hamilton’s Funeral Home with the Rev. H. William Sorenson of the Central Lutheran Church officiating of which he was a member.
Evelyn Hinricks, organist, accompanied William Buckels as he sang “Beyond the Sunset” and “The Old Rugged Cross”.
Interment was in the Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines.
Pallbearers were his nephews Roger Christensen, Lloyd Buckels, Jr., David Mortvedt, Loren Mortvedt, Jack Gutmann, Davey Kuskulis.
