John Hia Killed in Seattle, Washington; Funeral Held Here
(1894-1947)John Hia, former resident of this community, was killed on June 9, at Seattle, Wash., death resulting from a fractured skull received in an accident. The remains were brought to the Henderson funeral home in Story City, arriving Tuesday morning.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at Trinity Lutheran church at 2 o’clock following a short service at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ernest (LaVonne) Carnell.
Mr. Hia was born and reared in this community. For the past two years he has been on the west coast. He was a veteran of World War I, having served over two years with the 313th Supply Train, 88th Division, with several months in France.
He is survived by his daughter and his former wife, Mrs. Emma Hia, and his father, Iver J. Hia of Randall; also seven sisters and brothers – Mrs. R.J. Anderson, Ames; Obert Hia, Des Moines; Arnold Hia, Webster City; Mrs. Lulu Wierson, Mrs. Ben Mortvedt, and Selmer Hia, Randall, and Mrs. Lloyd Buckels, Jewell.
