Gene Orlin Colburn, 65, of Roland, Iowa, passed away October 2, 2006 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Services were Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006 at 4 p.m. at Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home in Story City. Visitation was prior to the service from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. A military burial service was at the Roland Cemetery.

Gene Orlin Colburn was born Feb. 2, 1941 to parents Wayne 0. and Kathryn (Panzer) Colburn in Tripoli, Iowa. Gene grew up in Tripoli and lived in Waterloo until moving to the Des Moines area in 1985. He was in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963. Gene married Norma Welter April 26, 1969. He had retired from the motel management business.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Colburn of Roland; two sons, Aaron Colburn of West Des Moines, and Wayne Colburn of Moline, Illinois; one daughter, Emily Colburn of Nevada, Iowa; three sisters, Cheryl Kammeryer of Urbandale, Jennifer Johnson of Polk City, and Kristin Kuhns of North Liberty; and four grandchildren.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; and several aunts and uncles.
