Florence M. Teigland and, 85, died peacefully surrounded by family at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Bier death on Nov. 26, 2006 was due to complications following a recent heart attack. A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1, at Windsor Heights Lutheran Church in Des Moines. A reception followed the service.

Flo was born Oct. 14, 1921, in Story City to Anna and T.Z. Henryson. She attended college at Iowa State and married Dr. Joel D. Teigland on Dec. 22, 1943. In 1954, Flo and Joel and their family settled in Des Moines, where they lived until 1993. Flo was devoted to her family and treasured spending time with them at their cabin in northern Minnesota, in the sunshine of Sanibel Island, and at their home in Arizona. She loved picking blueberries in the woods and shelling on the beach, and shared these passions with others. She was a wonderful and gracious wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Flo had a great sense of humor, a compassionate understanding of others, and an inner strength and humility which was an inspiration to those who knew her.

In addition to her husband, Flo is survived by her son Bruce, of rural Iowa City; daughters Joan Peterson (Paul) of Albia; Jean Teigland (Russ Felkey) of Minnetonka, Minnesota; Ellen Teigland (Charles Schweigert) of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; and Betsy Teigland (Peter Narum) of Madison, Wisconsin. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren; one great-grandson; sister Thelma Jensen (Walt) of West Des Moines; and many other relatives and friends. Flo was preceded in death by a grandson, Stefan Narum, and daughter-in-law, Kathy Teigland.
