Paul Steven Helgeson, 64, of Northwood, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at the Evangelical Free Church, 1310 Hwy. 18 West, Clear Lake, with Reverend David Wiersbe officiating. Burial was at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood.

The family of Paul Steven Helgeson has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Fairgrounds Beautification Project in Northwood, Kim Thorsfeldt Day Spring School in South Africa, or to the Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camp in his memory.

Paul Steven Helgeson was born on Jan. 6, 1942, in Story City, the son of Kerner and Florence (Severson) Helgeson. He attended and graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1960, Waldorf College in 1962, and also from Iowa State University. Upon completing his schooling he was a salesman for Farm Service Company in Indianola before moving to Northwood to raise his family on their rarm west or Northwood. He also worked for Farm Service Company in Worth County, and sold insurance for Farm Bureau in Northwood. The family farmed for 25 years in the Northwood area before his retirement moving into Northwood in 2002.

He was united in marriage to Sharon "Shar baby" Reyerson on Aug. 1, 1964, at the Silver Lake Lutheran Church, rural Northwood, and to this union three children were born; Michelle, Susan, and Steven.

He enjoyed entertaining friends, hosting bible study groups, music, auctions, remodeling homes, landscaping, and his mission trip to Mexico with the Christian - farmers organization, but his great love and enjoyment was his family, grandchildren, and countless friends. Paul was also a special uncle to his many nieces and nephews.

He was a member of Evangelical Free Church in Clear Lake, First Lutheran Church in Northwood, and the Worth County Extension Council in Northwood.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 42 years, Sharon Helgeson of Northwood; children, Michelle Perry and her husband Rick of Marion, Iowa. Susan Kliment and her husband Darrin of Northwood, and Steven Helgeson and his wife Katie of Roland; seven grandchildren; Alyssa, Rachel, Jaclyn, and Nicholas Perry, Caleb, Samuel, and Josiah Paul Kliment; sister, Kathryn Helgeson of Gurnee, Illinois; a brother, Thomas Helgeson and his wife Barbara of Radcliffe; and a sister, Linda Thompson and her husband Dave of Shenandoah, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Benjamin Perry; nephew, Douglas Thompson; and a niece, Connie Helgeson-Moen.
