Eugene Hall Morey, 87, of Lawrence, Kan., died Saturday, July 21, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community in Lawrence, Kan. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence, Kan.

Eugene Hall Morey was born Dec. 21, 1919, in Eldora, the son of Edwin and Elva (Hall) Morey. He graduated from Liscomb High School and later graduated from Iowa State University. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a longtime resident of central Iowa. He worked in the shoe business for Nichols and Green and Emerhoffs.

He married Betty Mae Higgins Dec. 28, 1942, in Omaha, Neb. She died May 11, 2007.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Plymouth Congregational Church. He moved to Lawrence in 2006.

Survivors include one son, Stephen Morey and wife Rebecca Ryan, of Lawrence, Kan.; one daughter, Pamela Marks and husband William, of Strafford, N.H.; one sister, Hester Elerding, of Eldora; three granddaughters, Christina Wynkoop, of St. Paul, Minn., Kathy Voth, of Norfolk, Va., and Dolly Mazonowitz, of England; two step-grandchildren, Rachel and Joseph Treanor; and two great-grandchildren, Max and Molly Voth.

The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until service time, Wednesday, July 25, at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association, sent in care of the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, 601 Indiana St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
