July 18, 1932-July 17, 2007

Robert Eugene Onstot, 74, of Nevada, died Tuesday, July 17, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 23, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 22, at Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory in Nevada, with Masonic Services following.

Robert Eugene Onstot was born July 18, 1932, in Truro, to Charles Lee and Bonnita (Kinnaird) Onstot. He married Evelyn Walker Nov. 16, 1952, in Norwalk. He worked at the Iowa State University Physical Plant as a sheet metal worker, and upon retiring from ISU, he worked at C&K Heating, Cooling and Ventilation in Ames. He served with the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict.

He was a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, the Arcadia Lodge No. 249 AF and FM, Past Master Laura Chapter of the Eastern Star, American Legion William F. Ball Post No. 48, Nevada Golden K Club, advisor for DeMolay and Rainbow Dad for many years. He enjoyed his family and grandkids, gardening, camping, fishing and golf.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Mary Onstot, of Madrid; two daughters and one son-in-law, Robin and Larry McKenzie, of Austin, Texas, and Leanne Mathis, of Slater; one brother, Jerry (Jan) Onstot of Urbandale; one sister, Daylene (Larry) Ellis of Norwalk; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
