Jerry Delos Christian, 80, of Wilmington, Ill., died Wednesday, June 13, at home following a long illness. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 15, at Freitag Funeral Home in Wilmington, with the Rev. Christopher Beamsley officiating. Burial will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Ill., with the U.S. Navy and Wilmington VFW Post No. 5422 conducting military honors.

Jerry Delos Christian was born May 29, 1927, on a farm in McCallsburg, to Gaylord T. and Lillian (Bjelde) Christian. He married Marie E. Beckmann Christian Dec. 11, 1965, at Golgatha Lutheran Church of Chicago. He worked for 17 years as a well driller for Layne Western of Aurora, Ill., and Uniroyal (Joliet Arsenal) for 25 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, lifetime member of American Legion Post No. 39 of Braidwood, member of Masonic Lodge No. 208 Wilmington and a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Wilmington.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; three daughters, Michelle (Gary) Walter, of Clarinda, Linda (Terry) Wilder, of Lockport, Ill., and Karla Walsh, of Crest Hill, Ill.; four sons, Randy, of Las Vegas, Brian (Ann) and Scott (Lynn), both of Wilmington, Ill., and Paul (Kendra Horsley) Christian, of Millstadt, Ill.; one brother, Lynn (Mary) Christian, of Ames; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Arlo Christian; one son-in-law, Danny Walsh; and his first wife, LaWanda Lilland Christian.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Freitag Funeral Home in Wilmington, Ill., with Masonic Rites at 6 p.m. and American Legion Services at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Grace Lutheran Church in Wilmington.
