Melrose, Iowa - Catherine Carmody, age 93, of Nevada, Iowa formerly of Melrose died Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa. She was born on June 15, 1913 to James and Catherine Philomena (Coady) O'Brien. She married Matthew Francis Carmody on August 20, 1945 at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose. He died March 31, 1981.

Catherine attended the St. Joseph's Academy in Ottumwa, Iowa. She had worked in the Ammunition Plant in Ankeny, Iowa and was a homemaker. She was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose and its Altar & Rosary Society and the St. Patrick's Catholic Church and St. Ann's Club of Nevada, Iowa.

Four sons, John J. Carmody of Nevada, Donald F. (Mary Lou) Carmody of Mt. Pleasant, Patrick J. (Kathy) Carmody of Solon, and Michael M. (Linda) Carmody of Ankeny survive Catherine. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, Nicole, Kristine, Michelle, Katie, Matt, and Shawn and great grandchildren.

Her parents, husband Matt, one sister, Mary in infancy, and 6 brothers, Martin, Phillip, Pierce, Vincent, Francis and Michael precede her in death.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 2, 2007 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Robert Lathrop officiating. Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Melrose.
