Feb. 26, 1928-May 19, 2007

Lloyd Dean (Shorty) Moore, 79, of Maxwell, died of cancer Saturday, May 19, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Lloyd Dean (Shorty) Moore was born Feb. 26, 1928, in rural Humeston, to Raymond Memphis and Nellie Gladys (Trisler) Moore. He graduated from an elementary country school in 1942. He graduated from Humeston Public High School in 1946. He married Christine Jane Palmer in August 1950. They later divorced.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served from Oct. 25, 1950 to Oct. 3, 1952. He remained in the reserves until his discharge April 1, 1957. He farmed and drove truck in Humeston until moving to Ames in 1965. He was employed by Iowa State University Curtiss farms until he retired in 1991. He loved to help other people and enjoyed fishing and lawn mower repair.

He is survived by one son, Allen (Valorie) Moore, of Cambridge; two daughters, Vicki (Jason) Phillips, of Huxley, and Kathi Moore, of Slater; 10 grandchildren, Tracy Lee Moore, Chastity Jo Moore, Nicole Jane (Brian Lowe) Moore, Mathew Allen Moore, Teresa Fae (Justin Gaedke) Stevens, Dennis Duane Price, Danny Lee (Stacie) Price, Randy Gene Brock Jr., Christina June (Brent) Hilgenberg and Bobby Dene (Jill) Brock; 15 great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Maddie, Dallen, Atheena, Ethan, Blake, Desarae, Kelsey, Rylie, Nathaniel, Emily, Tanner, Chandler, Ella and Kaylee; one sister, Wilma Berta Humphrey, of Arizona; and one brother, Donald Glen Moore, of Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gary Dean Moore; an infant sister, Mildred Marie; and one brother, Raymond Rex Moore.

A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.
