Betty Mae Morey, 85, of Lawrence, Kan., died Friday, May 11, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community. Memorial services were today at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence, Kan.

Betty Mae Morey was born May 5, 1922, in Tabor, the daughter of Raymond and Lucy Courcier Higgins. She graduated from Woodbine High School in 1939, and later graduated from American Institute of Business in Des Moines. She married Eugene H. Morey Dec. 28, 1942, in Omaha, Neb.

She was a secretary at Iowa State University for seven years. She served previously as a secretary in the medical field. She was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church and Daughters of the American Revolution in Lawrence, and Order of the Eastern Star and the Book and Basket Club in Ames. She moved to Lawrence in 2006.

She is survived by her husband, Eugene; one son, Steve Morey and wife, Rebecca Ryan, of Lawrence, Kan.; one daughter, Pamela Marks and husband, Bill, of Strafford, N.H.; three grandchildren, Christina Winkoop and husband, Aaron, Kathy Voth and husband, Dan, and Dolly Mazonowicz and husband, Lance; two great-grandchildren, Max and Molly Voth; and two step-grandchildren, Rachael and Joe Treanor.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Claude Higgins; and one sister, Jean O'Gara.
