THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Sunday, April 29, 2007.

Erwin Dale Luedders, 74, of Ames, died Tuesday, April 24, at home. Services will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Ames, 1015 Hyland Ave. He was cremated.

Erwin Dale Luedders was born March 17, 1933, in Ludell, Kan., the son of Fred and Sadie (Soathoff) Luedders. He grew up in Kansas, moving to Ames in 1994. He was a graduate of Kansas University with a master's degree from Iowa State University. He served in the Army. He married Dorothy Hammond June 12, 2005.

He retired as a music instructor in 2003. He served as choir director at Unitarian Universalist Church of Ames, and was active in the Ames Foster Grandparent program at Ames Middle School. He sang with the Ames Choral Society, played string bass with the Blue Moon Players and loved ballroom dancing.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hammond, of Ames; two sons, Patrick Luedders and wife, Sheila, of Rantoul, Kan., Chris Luedders and wife, Rebecca, of Hayes, Kan.; daughter, Natalie Meica and husband, David, of Clay Center, Kan.; nine stepchildren who loved him; two brothers, Alvin Luedders, of Omaha, Neb., Lonnied Luedders, of Eagan, Minn.; two sisters, Mildred Kastens, of Rushville, Mo., Anita Denham, of Las Vegas, Nev.; five grandchildren; 20 step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Fredrick Luedders; sister, Ruth Schoup; infant brother Lawrence; and infant sister Thelma Luedders.

Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
