Dr. Robert W. Larson, 83, of Story City, died peacefully Saturday, April 14, at Bethany Manor. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight at Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, also at Bergen. A military burial service will be in Roland Cemetery.
Robert W. Larson, affectionately known as "Doc," was born Aug. 17, 1923, on his family's farm west of Story City, to Lewis Larson and Amelia (Oswald) Larson. He graduated from Story City High School in 1941. He graduated from the University of Iowa and the Still Osteopathic College. He also was a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps. While in the service, he married his high school classmate, Helen Munsen, April 7, 1945. From 1952 to 1960, he practiced in Sac City. He practiced in Roland from 1960 until he retired in 1991.
He was a member of the Roland-Story School Board, Kiwanis, Bethany Life Foundation Board, the American Legion and American Osteopathic Association. He had a strong faith and was a very dedicated member of his church.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; daughter, Cheryl (Steve) Sondall, of Marshalltown; son, William (Carol) Larson, of Story City; daughter, LuAnn (Jim) Johnson, of Ankeny; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Thompson; and three brothers-in-law, Richard (Katherine) Munsen, Donald (Eleanor) Munsen and the Rev. Alfred Rau.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Katherine Rau; and one brother-in-law, Ted Thompson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to his church, Bethany Life Foundation, and Riverside Bible Camp.
Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City is in charge of arrangements.
