THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, April 13, 2007.

Robert Lee Terpstra, 53, of Ames, died Thursday, April 12. A celebration of Bob's life will be at 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 16, at Collegiate Presbyterian Church in Ames.

Bob Terpstra was born May 25, 1953, in Waterloo, to Ralph and Bessie Terpstra. He graduated from Ackley-Geneva High School in 1971, and went on to school at Hawkeye Tech. After working several years, he moved to Ames to attend Iowa State University, where he earned his master's degree in industrial technology. Bob was employed by Ames Lab as a research scientist doing powder metallurgy research.

He married Karen Bennett in September 1982. Their daughter, Aslynn Joy, was born Jan. 19, 1990.
Bob enjoyed canoeing, riding his Harley and always working on the house.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Terpstra, of Ames; daughter, Aslynn Joy Terpstra, of Ames; parents, Ralph and Bessie Terpstra, of Ackley; brothers, Paul (Diane) Terpstra, of Janesville, Wis., and Cal (Patti) Terpstra, of Norwalk, Conn.; sister-in-law, Brenda Terpstra, of Parkersburg; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, George Terpstra.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 15, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts be given to the Bob Terpstra trust for the Senior High Fellowship Mission trips at Collegiate Presbyterian Church.
