TRI COUNTY TIMES, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, April 5, 2007.

Cordelia Anfenson, 105, of Ames, died of heart failure on Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 31, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Oakwood Road Church in Ames.

Cordelia was born on January 30, 1902 in Runnells, IA to Scott and Bertha (Deaton) Freel. She completed the eighth grade in school and was then needed to assist with chores on the family farm. She married Howard Anfenson on December 24, 1919 in Des Moines. She was a homemaker until her family was raised. She began as an in-home caregiver in 1938 and in 1943, she started to cook for several ISU fraternities and also at Riverside Manor. She resumed as a caregiver with Homeward until 1991, when she moved to New Jersey to live with her son, Harold. She returned to Ames in 1996 and has resided at Abington on Grand until death.

She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Anfenson of Clyde, TX and Harold Anfenson of Palmyra, NJ; three daughters, Beatrice Markley of Ames, Marie Fisher of Stanton, CA and Donna Kay (Roger) Simpson of Oklahoma City, OK; special friend, Herman Kennedy; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987; infant son, Wesley Faye; infant daughter, Selma Edith; sister, Edith Bradshaw; and three brothers, Walter, Wesley and Darrell Freel.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family and/or Israel Family Hospice House or Oakwood Road Church.

Stevens Memorial Chapel is assisting Cordelia's family with final arrangements.
