Donald Andrew Kaufman, 77 of Colo died on Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral mass was held Monday, April 2 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colo. Burial, with military rites, followed in the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Nevada.
Donald was born on January 3, 1930 in Fernald, Iowa to Andrew J. and Velma Elizabeth (Donaldson) Kaufman. He was a 1947 graduate of Fernald High School. On September 6, 1952, Donald married Bertha Bland at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Donald served in the Air Force during the Korean conflict. He was supervisor in shipping and receiving at R.H. Donnelley Corp in Nevada and also engaged in farming. Donald was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colo and the Experimental Aircraft Association in Ankeny. He had also served on the Colo School Board. Donald enjoyed rebuilding his airplane and attending his grandchildren activities.
Donald is survived by his wife, Bertha Kaufman of Colo; 4 sons, Steven (Rita) Kaufman of Hampton, Michael (Debra) Kaufman of Nevada, Dean (Marcy) Kaufman of Colo, and David (Lisa) Kaufman of Longview, Texas; a daughter, Donna (Stephen) Smith of Markesan, WI; 15 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Dick Kaufman of Grey Summit, Missouri and Robert Kaufman of Urbandale; 4 sisters, Jean Henn of Sun City West, Arizona, Jurene Kenworthy of Mercer Island, WA, Karen Morris of Apple Valley, MN and Charlene Maes of Olympia, WA; 2 aunts, Salome Roesch of Piopolis, IL and Genevieve Cook of Nevada.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister Delores Kaufman.
A memorial fund has been established.
Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with Donald's arrangements.
