THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, April 4, 2007.

Sept. 6, 1915-March 30, 2007

Eugene Ray Cagwin, 91, of Nevada, died Friday, March 30, at home. Graveside services, with military rites, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 6, in Woodland Cemetery in Iowa Center, with Pastor Scott Milsom officiating.

Gene Cagwin was born Sept. 6, 1915, in Marshalltown, to Ray David and Freida Kristin (Newblom) Cagwin. He was a graduate of Nevada High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Velda Irene Coughenour July 9, 1945, in Nevada. He retired in 1977 as a gas appliance service man for Iowa Electric Light and Power. He was a member, deacon and trustee at Central Presbyterian Church along with being a member of the VFW. He enjoyed fishing and being with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Velda Cagwin, of Nevada; one son, Richard Eugene (Janelle) Cagwin, of Ames; one daughter, Sharon (Hershel) Graham, of Nixa, Mo.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.

A memorial fund has been established in Gene's name for Central Presbyterian Church in Nevada.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
